Prosoft-Systems Updates emergency control system at Votkinskaya HPP

03 October 2019

Prosoft-Systems is assisting in the comprehensive modernization at Votkinskaya HPP, one of the key junctions in the Urals region power grid. The company’s specialists have installed a microprocessor emergency control package in a multi-stage project to outfit the station with modern emergency control equipment.

Carried out by RusHydro, the upgrade program will replace hydroelectric generators and generator transformers at Votkinskaya HPP. As part of this program, Prosoft-Systems supplied the redundant microprocessor packages for a local emergency control in a 500/220 kV 3ATG autotransformer cabinet and has put them into operation. The equipment performs functions of overload protection, out-of-step protection, voltage monitoring, automatic load shedding in case of prolonged short circuits, and pre-fault mode supervision.

Currently, a new lot of redundant emergency control systems for a 500/220 kV 2ATG autotransformer, as well as equipment overload protection for 110 kV overhead lines and automatic over-frequency protection for 220 kV bus systems are en route to the station. Additionally, the scope of work includes updating the automatics of the generating system emergency control IED and altering the device settings (automatic gain control) to meet the requirements of the System Operator of the Unified Power System and increase the equipment efficiency. This, in turn, will make it possible to more effectively meet future challenges in interacting with the centralized emergency control system of the Urals’ Interregional Dispatching Office.
